Where can I obtain copy share certs from?

Hi

We have received a letter to say we are entitled to some money from some shares (Allied Domecq) - but the registrars dont appear to exist anymore.

To obtain the money we need copy certs - where can we get these?

that sounds more like a scam to me - did you know you own shares in Georgeson?

No - we dont own shares in Georgeson. They are a complany that find people that owned shares and are owed money. Done several searches and they are a valid company.

We owned shares in Allied Domecq - we didnt mention this to them when we phoned them and they were able to tell us that they have proceeds for us from Allied Domecq.

Georgeson are part of Computershare, the registrars. Presumably you didn't receive your entitlement when Allied Domecq were taken over. If you get your money through Georgeson they'll charge you a fee. If you phone Computeshare registrars and tell them you haven't had the cheque you might find it just costs you for re-issuing the cheque. https://www-uk.computershare.com/investor/

Hi No - we moved a few times and cant find the share cert - we thought that we would not receive much anyway - so weren't particularly bothered. But have beed told is £100's now.

Just need to know how to get hold of a copy cert as we cant find ours.

Phone Computershare. As Georgeson are involved, they must have been the registrars and it's the registrars who re-issue lost certificates. Usually the registrars charge an admin fee plus an insurance fee based on the value for doing that. Georgeson are just acting as agents for Computershare to locate you (even though they're part of the same company). It's the registrars who'll pay you, not Georgeson.

But I'm surprised that anyone needs a certificate now for a company that's been taken over, it wouldn't have much meaning, and wouldn't really expect it to be possible to issue a cert for a company that no longer exists. If a company you had shares in has been taken over and you haven't been paid the registrars should be able to just send you a cheque, usually after deducting a cheque reissue fee. (It all used to be free.) Either way, if you phone Computershare they should be able to advise and sort it out for you. And may save you money. They used to be very helpful.

Yeah I would contact Computershare. If you don't have your share cert you will have to pay to get a new one though.

  • You do not need to send back your Allied Domecq share certificates with the Georgeson claim form in order to claim the monies due to you.
