How do I request Copy of AST contract from Agency

I would like to see/obtain a copy of the AST contracts between myself and an Agent.

Does anyone know of the means whereby I can legally request the right to see them?

Are you the LL or the T?

If the T then did you not keep the copy the agent signed? That said, there should be no problem in the agent giving you a copy of the AST you signed but obviously you will not be able to use this to prove their signature. They can make a reasonable charge for doing this if they want.

I am the T - and yes I do usually keep copies - the ones I cant find yet are prob buried in the attic as weve recently moved. I have some but not all at present.

Because there is a dispute with the LL over deposit - and the LL is claiming we were on a periodic contract rather than an AST for 2008 - I want to see the copies of the contract he has for us to ensure hes being honest.

Hence - I am pretty sure he wont supply them - so I was looking for a more legal way of acquiring /requesting a copy (so my trip wont be wasted if he tells me to go away). I would have no problem paying for it.

Ah - LL says that you never renewed and you think you did? It should not affect any dispute over the deposit - you are still entitled to the return of your deposit when leave less any reasonable deductions that your LL is entitled to make for delapidations.

The only thing that might be affected is if you want the go for 3x but given that you have already moved out then you have little chance of succeeding with this anyway.

it would be for the 3x, tenancy has ended, so a bit ropey, however I do have a copy of our contract signed 2008 which states deposit will be secured in TDS, under section 214 1b) about proceedings relating to Tenacy Deposits: something along the lines of where a landlord has informed a tenant that the deposit will be held in such a scheme, and it isnt, which I have had confirmation from LL and TDS.
Since its a signed formal contract dated 2008 - I dont think you can have more substanstial proof to satisfy the requirement. Im finding it very interesting. The deposit is still outstanding.

yup - less problem with that tho - I made a video of the property when I moved in with proof of dates. But I would have to take him to court to get it.

""But I would have to take him to court to get it."" - if you took the video and gave it to the agent - what makes you think he will cooperate with you by producing it - especially if it is the only copy ?

to clarify - for return of deposit I would need to take him to court to settle the dispute. Legally cant charge new for old - as its betterment, has to be like for like. He wasnt interested in the videos and told me to take him to court. Original reason for me for looking at TDS on the contract was for independent arbitration (didnt know about the 3x).

should also clarify - 2 tapes, one made before, one after tenancy, with evidence of dates they were made. All they really show is the property was in better condition when we left than when we moved in (except the patch on the vinly - I dont see the tapes have any real bearing anymore).
