Fahionista's..who's your style icon??

Calling all you fashionista's, who would you most like to be dressed like if you had the money? Mine is Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, she always looks so elegant and understated, she has an air of Jackie kennedy about her. My colouring is the same as her's so i love the colours she wears, only wish my wallet was too!!!

I think Sienna Miller always pulls it off too, but when i try and do the boho thing i just look scruffy!!!!

So who's yours??? and how do you try to emulate it??

Sharron

I don't try to emulate anyone as I find it very odd when people want to dress like a celebrity rather than look like an individual. I do look at famous people who have a similar figure or colouring than me to see what sort of skirt length/colour etc they are wearing. E.g. if I saw a celebrity who is as short as me wearing a skirt length I would not have considered I might give it a try next time I am in a clothes shop.

Women I keep an eye on are:

Dita Von Teese - I think she always looks amazing & I am very petite so the sort of structured/tailored clothes she wears would suit me.

Preity Zinta - She always looks so chic when she attends public events. She seems to wear the clothes rather than the clothes wearing her. She is also round-faced and petite like me.

I would love to see how some of the female stylish celebs would look if they actually had to put their own looks together rather than use a stylist!

Favourite style icon of all time has got to be Audrey Hepburn, always so elegant, so classy. Her outfits in 'Breakfast at Tiffanys' are just to die for.

    Hey! Great thread Sharron.......

Again, I don't have any icons, but I always like the way Catherine Zeta Jones looks.

Strange, but there's a theme emerging here already, in that people are relating to the style of celebs in whose appearance they have something in common. I hadn't thought of it before but CZJ is tall 5'7"+, curvy figure(usually), similar colouring to me.......although that is the point at which the similarity ends abruptly!

Are we sub-consciously drawn to the appearance of types similar to ourselves? (Probably the next poster along will promptly disprove my theory!!!:rotfl:)

I searched some pics after Sharrons post and found this one

which actually felt a bit spooky, because I recreate this casual (scruffy?)look exactly with the my taupe Next parka and my old M&S jeans and black patent DKNY tote, all of which survived the wardrobe clearance and her hair in this picture is exactly the same as mine was when I was young!!

Anyway, back to the point, I like her best in the jewel coloured evening gowns she wears, she's had some beautiful ones in red, orange, emerald purple , but she looks fab in black and white too.

Again all my colours for this summer. I like the way she keeps her jewellery to a minimum and the clean figure skimming lines she wears!!

Plus she's got Welsh blood too like me! The only bit I'm not so keen on is the ol' fella!

I kind of think there is no point choosing a style icon who is totally different to yourself. I am just under 5 feet and have a very small frame. There would be no point choosing a strapping supermodel as my style icon. Partly because I could never wear the types of clothes she does and partly because stylewise I would find it hard to relate to someone who is so completely different to myself. I simply cannot imagine what it must be like to be able to choose a dress without worrying whether it's going to swamp you!

Yeah! TBH, these are things I've never given much thought to before!! Bit slow on the uptake really!

I can see what you mean, but I take "icon" to mean epitome of stylishness, but not necessarily personal role model. I can admire someone as a style icon, recognising their individuality, without necessarily wanting or being able to emulate their individual style personally too!

I just had one of those spooky flash-back moments with the CZJ parka thing!!

I'd also have said Audrey Hepburn and Dita von Teese - when not gigantically pregnant I'm small framed and only 5'2 tall, so neatly tailored vintage clothing looks good on me.

I'm currently wearing an Op Art shirt in a size 16 as a dress - it's loose enough to skim the bump and you can't really see my edges.

Now this is going to sound soooo big headed :o but lots of people have actually told me that I look like Catherine Zeta Jones including a landlady of a B&B in Wales where she had actually stayed. We have the same colouring and nose, face shape but that's all I can see.Bronnie, Mike doesn't do it for me neither. I notice that she is always quite classic and I have to say that although I love the looks that Sienna Miller and Kate Moss wear, I just can't pull it off. Other style icons include Doris Day in all her films with Rock Hudson, I love that era, Jackie O, Audrey Hepburn, the usuals and any french women:D

  • Eyeonspain, i've noticed that too about the french, the seem to be born with style. I read that they have the smallest wardrobes, but every item is of the best quality they can afford.

Audrey Hepburn's outfits i breakfast at tiffanys are fab too!!

I HATE victoria beckhams style, i do like her tatoos and of course her vast collection of hermes birkin bags. But i think she try's too hard.

I love Rachel Bilson. I'm really into that laid-back LA look. I'm not very classic and I hate to be smart, so I live in jeans and slouchy tees, jersey dresses and flip flops.

Although, like others have said I don't really copy anyone else's particular style. I tend to buy what I like more than anything else.
