Camera cost just short of £200. So I would expect it to last at least 4-5 years but thats just my humble opinion.
Sorry, but, I would not. For a sub £200 camera given normal usage you could resonably expect 2 years out of it. So having it break down 2.5 years after purchase is pretty much par for the course for this sort of technology in my experience.
My advice, throw it in the bin and buy a new and improved camera. Sorry.0 -
The S6500 is a pretty decent camera. I'd expect it to last more than 2 and a half years - it's not cheapSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -

Maybe yes, maybe no. But I'd say 2.5 years is well inside the timeframe when complex electronic devices can start to go wrong. I don't think you'd have any claim to say it lasted an unreasonably short time0 -
Regardless of the time frame though, you'd still have to prove it was an inherent fault, and not a result of, say, the camera being dropped or misused.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. And you'd have to prove that the use was 'reasonable'.
e.g. If you're using you camera every single day for several hours per day and you'd paid less than £200, then I wouldn't consider it unreasonable to fail after 12 months.
However if you only take it out of the drawer once every 6 months to take 2 photos and put it away again, I'd expect it to last well over 5 years.0 -

What about a £5,000 camera, or one that costs £10?
How can we expect price to relate to expected time it will last? And how is it going to be enforcable when there is no way of knowing how it has been treated during that time?0 -
Thanks for advice i'm writing the email right now.
I've used it every couple of weeks, nothing excessive. The camera is an exchange as the first one went faulty within 30 days with exactly the same problem. This to me says it is an inherent problem with this camera?
My old olympus camera is still working after 10 years!0 -
Update.
After emailing the SOGA letter I had a reply within 7 days asking to take the camera into a local currys to confirm the fault.
I did this and the gent at tech guys called customer service who then offered me £50 and a £25 gesture of goodwill voucher.
After some more phone calls over the next couple of days I was offered £90 in total.
Have since purchased new Sony A200 camera and used the voucher towards this.
Currys get the :money::money::money::money::money: award from me.0
