saw a 'bargain' 6pack of a certain brand of bottled water at local 99p shop, and as rather warm out, thought that would be great.

i felt a bit off later that day after having one bottle, but put it down to the weather.

yesterday, i had 2 more - and regretted it erm, several times, shall we say!

i can only think the stock's position near the tills (and windows, and hot sun) was not really ideal for storing foodstuffs?

Water can't go off, in the same way meat does.
Were the seals on the bottles intact? What was the 'use by' date on the bottles?

Warm water is a great place for bacteria to grow, especially water that's been standing around for a while. That's why there's a sell-by date on water.

You have to remember that bottled water is not treated in the same way as tap water, and as topbadger says, it has a limited shelf life.

If you really want to save a fortune on bottled water make your own. Buy a jug filter, filter tap water and place in fridge until you want to drink it.Like bottled water it has a limited shelf life, but at a fraction of a penny a litre, you can afford to throw it away.
I appreciate bottled water is often claimed to come from natural springs etc, but filtered tap water is just as healthy.

  • Got a bottle of water sitting next to me, and it actually says on the label 'Keep out of direct sunlight.' It's just cheap Lidl stuff I've got here, but I'd assume the advice would be the same for any bottled water, so sounds like they've had it sitting in totally the wrong place for it.

I heard a while that chemicals from the plastic are released into the water - more so when it has been in the sun. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-379624/The-poison-lurking-plastic-water-bottle.html

I appreciate it is from the daily mail so here's another: http://trusted.md/blog/vreni_gurd/2007/03/29/plastic_water_bottles

    Another case for snopes?

For the record, I reuse bottles for about a month, then throw them out...

Both the Snopes and Daily Mail articles concern different chemicals. Neither of these exist at levels that would make you immediately ill after consuming them.
