Can I appeal?

I parked in Clapham the other evening. Was in a rush for the cinema and noticed the sign on the other side of the road said that parking restrictions ended at 6.30pm - which I expected. Got back to the car to find a ticket and looked around to find out why and, on my side of the road, was a smaller sign to say that restrictions ended at 8.30pm. Is this normal to have different rules for opposite sides of the street? Does anyone think I have grounds for appeal?

Unforunately perfectly normal. One side of a street could be run by a different council than the other for example and have different parking rules. You should always check the signs on the side you are parked on. However councils often get the parking ticket wrong so check that it is correct by scanning/photographing it and hosting on tinypic, see stickies, and post the url here without the http:// bit on. That's only half of the ticket. You need to show us all of it.

I've no idea how to do it, I'm afraid, but there are probably instructions somewhere.

The picture showed up fine for me, but it was only the front of the ticket. The back is just as important.

It would also be useful if you could post up some photos of the signs.

This does sound as if signage may have been misleading.
