Web Hosting advice please

Hi,
I want to buy a domain name and have it "pointed" to a web site/address that I already have. Can someone point me in the direction of a)the cheapest and b) the easiest way of doing this. It needs to be the simplest way possible as I am not website savvy.
Thanks in advance
:cool:

    I dont want to move the current one. I want an additional one with a different domian name that will be picked up in seraches and "point" to the one I already have. (Not sure what that is actually called so hope you know what I mean).

    There are 2 options you have.

    You can either have basic re-direction, (direct or frames) this service is provided by most registrars anyway (123 reg etc)

    OR

    you can buy a new domain as ask your current host to point an additional domain to the same webspace as your current domain, then you just point the domains namesservers to your existing ones.
    Hosts may or may not do this for your however and will probably charge you for it. (you may need to readjust your site to make this work cleanly)
  • Bluehost.com

    Before you buy, you can check it out here;
    bluehost.com/tell_me_more.html
    Click on 'Demo login'. This shows what you would typically see when logged in to your account.

    Look down the list and under the category heading 'Domains' you simply click on the 'Redirects' icon. Once in there, it's quite self explanatory;

    1. Select new domain name you purchased from Bluehost in the drop down list (keep as 301)
    2. Then in 'Redirects to' add the old domain name you want it pointing to. Keep as 'Redirect with or without www'. & tick box 'Wild cards enabled'.
    Done.

    So:

    Currently you have:
    https://www.reallylongwebsitename.com

    But, when you type in:
    https://www.website.com
    you want it to go to
    https://www.reallylongwebsitename.com

    If so, just google redirect scripts, upload it to your site with some simple coding, and the job is done.

    If you need more help, there are tutorials out there, or you can email me at: sam@eduity.co.uk

    I think that if you use frames or PHP script redirects, Google disallows any useful ranking on the contents and will only show search results with your orignal hosting's url, not the new one that is pointing to it. Only directing via ip address of DNS sever in the control panel of your Domain registration, do you get the search engine benefit.
