Can you get motobility before 3 years old?

Options
My son has cerebral palsey and so needs physio. We had someone visiting every couple of weeks, but that's had to stop and my wife now has to visit the hosiptal every month.

The lad's one of twins so public transport isn't an option due to the size of the buggy so we could really do with another car. I can't really afford to buy another one, so was wondering if there is anyway of getting the motability payments early?

THanks

Daz

Hi Daz, no - the mobility element of DLA only kicks in when the child is 3.

Cant your wife use the car, and you use another form of transport, or use the payments from the care element of DLA to pay for a car.

Or does the hospital run a volunteer driver service?

There is an nhs service to take patients to and from hospital appointments - hospital cars. Not sure how you go about it, whether you ask your gp or the hospital. They are volunteers who will pick you up at home to take you to the appointment and then take you home again. It doesn't matter if you live in a rural area - I know a rural area in Wales has a service called country cars. Perhaps someone here will have more information.

Daz 75, you can only get motability from 3 years old,my child also has C.P,just wanted to say when you fill out the dreaded form, get and put as much information on the form, from everybody who deals with your child, from physio's to playgroup etc,and good luck.
