Been working since nov 06. Got made redundant on the 26th of June 09. Signed on only to get a letter stating that i haven't been paying enough NI Contributions from the years ending 07 and 08, and therefore don't qualify for any JSA payments. I could put in for income based but as my partner is earning it would wipe that out so i can't get that either.....Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!! why do they not do the last 2 years ni contributions, but leave a gap of a year and go back basically 3 years.
Is there anything i can do..?. I have informed Tax Credits that i will not be reciving benefits and my allowance from that should go up. Does anyone have an idea by how much it might be..?.

Is it not worth ringing HMRC to ask to pay the deficit - this will probably be less than one weeks JSA then maybe you can get contributory? I don't know, but surely it's worth it.
I had a deficit from 2004, and for 6 months it was about £48.I'll have some cheese please, bob.0 -
PS does anyone know what the contributions are supposed to be? The OP has been working all that time yet hasn't paid enough - how can that be?I'll have some cheese please, bob.0

Can you do that...?. Pay the defecit...? Anyone else know anything more about this..?0

The employer had paid. What has happened is i started work in Nov 06. When they processed my claim they used the tax years 06-07 and 08-09. So because i didn't start in April 06 for that year i never paid the full years NI, hence the shortfall. I have phoned them up today to ask if i can makeup the loss, but they said you can't as it is class 1 and based on what you earn. The only thing i can do is appeal their decision and ask them to use the years 07-08 and 08-09 and hope they can.0

Are you able to ask for them to do this? I was told there was no way they could consider more recent years; if this isn't the case, I may appeal myself...0 -
I have no idea, the guy on the phone said to try it.0
