Redundacy, confused!

I am to work my last day tomorrow, as i was given my 7 days notice last week. My employer has stated in the notice that i am entitled to any unused holiday pay and "all other monies due" (what i think he means by that is £200 in expenses i am owed), but it doesn't mention anything about redundancy pay.
I used to work for his father (until last December) but he has now retired and left the company to his son (now my boss) and has since changed the name of the company etc (basically started a new business). I know your not entitled to any payout unless you've worked for more than 2 years but ive worked there for about 5 and a half years, but only 6 months under the new company, so im now wondering if im entitled to anything.
We are quite good friends and i know hes struggling at the minute so its a bit of an awkward thing to bring up, i was just wondering if anybody could shed any light,
Thanks.

A change in company ownership by transferring shares does not end your continuity of employment.
The company is the legal entity which employs you, not the shareholder(s).
A company can change its name, registered office, objectives, directors etc... This does not affect your continuity of employment. You remain employed by the company after it has its facelift.
A company can theoretically live forever and go through many nips and tucks over the years, whilst retaining its identity.
You can follow a company's ups and downs via

Click on "search for company information" and then enter the name you want to look for.0 -

Continuity of employment would make you entitled to 5 weeks notice and 5 weeks redundancy.
I think you have continuity of employment.
Say you have 5.5 years service and will need the notice and redundancy paying appropriately.
It will probably cost him more in layers/HR fees to try to dispute this.0 -
Please note that the number of week's notice depends on your age. If you are over 41, for example, you will get more.0
