How To Escape TalkTalk's 18 month Contract

I used to work for TalkTalk and thought i'd throw this one out there. I know people sign up to TalkTalk for the cheap price but then later some find their internet connection is extremely slow, drops all the time, does not work, etc. But if you attempt to cancel it, you find you're in an 18 month contract. The way to get out is to phone up the Home Mover department. You need to be sure that you work through the automated phone system until you get to the option for moving homes. Once you are through to the call centre tell the operator that you are in the military and are being posted abroad. They wave the fee in this case. I cannot recall any other straightforward 'excuse' that will get you out of the contract. You will need to provide a forwarding address for your final bill to be sent to. This address can only be a UK address - they won't cancel it if you can't provide a UK address - so you will need to provide the address of someone else in your family or a friend. You will find that the call centre is very busy so it is best to ring at 8:00am when it first opens, unless you want to be on hold for half an hour.

    Hi Omnifire,

While it is one of the reasons that TalkTalk would offer a cessation free disconnection it would be necessary for anyone wanting to leave due to being posted abroad with the military then you would need to prove this by providing copies of the paperwork and military ID. If you can not provide this to the home movers or retentions team then a cessation fee would not be granted. A much better way is to visit https://www.talktalkmembers.com/forums to get your problems resolved. Also the best time to call the contact centre is not 8am as it opens - this is one of the busiest times. Around 3pm on a weekday during the "school run" is one of the best times to call for a quick answer.

    Cheers
