Tips for Southern Florida please

My family and I (husband and 2 teenagers 15 and 17yrs) are flying into Miami on July 19th and have booked a condo at Sanilbel Island for 1 week from the 22nd so we are looking for suggestions for the 3 nights before we go over to Sanilbel and for 9 nights after. We would like a few nights in Miami and as we fly in late evening it will probably be best at the start of our holiday, we are then considering either Marco Island or the Keys for a week and the last 2 nights somewhere on the east coast not too far from Miami- but we are open to suggestions! I would like a suite hotel which may allow all 4 of us to stay in one room and I would also be interested in a villa at Marco or the Keys.
We have been to Florida numerous times but never further South than Sanibel.
My biggest fear is a dodgy hotel with those huge florida bugs!! so I would really like some recommendations.
