perscription exemption?

Options
Hi

My OH has lost his job today so has phoned up DWP and they have filled his claim on line for contribution based jobseekers, I am already in receipt of long term IB.

I have been paying for my perscriptions by dd for a pre payment card of £10.25 a month.

Along with the above income we should (I think) still get CTC and CB for one child.

Would we automatically get an excemption card for perscriptions or will we have to apply for one and will we be entitled to it anyway?

thanks
caris

dont think you get exemption for prescriptions. My OH was IB for 7 years before he hit 60 and was paying out every month for a tiny bottle of eye drops.
    Sorry

Sorry, my mistake, he probably had to pay for his prescriptions because i was working full time at the time.

Good luck and again, my apologies.

To apply for help with prescription costs due to low income you need an HC1 form. If you qualify you'll also get help with dental costs & opticitians charges.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

The person who is getting IB will have to pay for prescriptions, the rest of the family is a different matter and they may be excempt depending on the benefits they are getting

Not quite true, IB on its own will not get you free prescriptions, I know I have a heart condition and am on 9 different tablets every day and had to pay for my prescriptions. It used to make me angry when the local smack heads used to get free methadone and i had to pay for medicines that kept me alive, now my wifes gets pension credits we both get free scripts, glasses and teeth.

It is automatic with some benefits, but most you have to go on income, unless you have certain medical conditions or are a smack head then you can get them free.

Whilst I understand your unhappiness at not qualfying for free prescriptions when recovering drug addicts are entitled to free methadone etc. I don't think it's nice to be too derogatory about drug addicts, calling them all smack heads.

Nobody knows the background that has led some addicts to turn to drugs. Some have been in institutions all of their lives & never known love or what it's like to live in a happy home. Others have been abused by family members or growin up in a very violent home. It's not good to just make assumptions & be too dismissive of all young people with drug probems I feel. Many have are trying to escape from a very painful past.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
