Credit Card Newbies

I am reasonably new to this whole credit card section of life and find it all confusing. The only/current creditcard I have at the moment is an Ulsterbank VISA creditcard. I got this given to me when I opened my student account with them about 4 years ago (I'm 21 and now working full time). I never used the card and filed it away unactivated.

It then came up I was going on holiday to America last year so needed a credit card. All the deals where finished on the card i.e. 0% on balance on transfers for 3 months etc. I thought Ide cancel The card (still unactivated) and get another one with them. I was told Ide have to wait a year before I could get another creditcard with them if I cancelled. Anyhow they offered me a short term deal and I took it and activated it.

Anyway I was thinking about cancelling this credit card and getting a new one but I don't know whats best for me. I maybe only spend around £100 a month on my card and pay it off in full every month- I will admit I sometimes break the golden rule and once a month withdraw some money from the card (its to cover paying towards getting essentials for my horse) Its only about £50 and means Its on the next months bill and I just pay it off in full with my other spends.

Is their any cards out their that don't hammer you the usual £3 for doing this? Just curious- But anyway as I said I normally only spend £100 a month on my credit card, pay it off in full etc. If I was going on holiday I would use my card to make purchases so would want something with protection as I would spend more on my card and don't want hammered with charges. I don't think reward cards would apply to me since I don't spend so much.

Anyway any ideas on good creditcard options? I have a good credit history and have never been refused anything and currently have my car financed out in my name. I mainly want a card for covering little spends that I can't afford this month but can pay off next month in full, for holidays and to help my credit rating- if thats true ( was told when your young it goods to have a credit card as long as you don't go mad and pay off your bills on time/in full so when you go for say a morgate in later years they have some sort of history on you)

Any way sorry for all the rambling! can anyone help/give advice/ideas

If you pay it off in full and only spend about £100 / month, they're all pretty much the same. However, you really need to cut out pulling cash out on it; why not just buy the "horse essentials" with your normal income?

Abbey Zero does not appy the fee for withdrawing cash from an ATM. Still not a good idea unless you have money to burn though as the interest rates on cash withdrawals are extortionate.
