This is the usual pack of lies from our bankers.

" About 300,000 customers have a £250 guarantee limit on their cards, which is now being reduced to the standard £100 limit for most other customers.

HSBC said it wanted to cut losses from cheque fraud and to discourage people from spending money they did not have.
    "

Only trustworthy customers of HSBC were ever given the £250 CGC in the first place.

What HSBC actually mean is that they are changing over to Visa from Maestro and Visa ( as far as I am aware ) do not supply £250 CGC's.

Neither Visa nor Mastercard are responsible for issuing cheque guarantees; the scheme is run by APACS and is "standard" (hence the William Shakespeare logo on both cards).

Nothing, really - error, most likely. They might mean be mistakenly referring to a floor limit, or trying to assure readers the change will not alter their debit card usage.

Well as the cheque guarantee scheme is (apparently) going to be axed completely within the next few years, people can't complain much.

That may well be correct, but the fact remains, no UK bank that issues Visa Cards offers a £250 CGC as far as I know, by all means correct me if I'm wrong.
