Tomy toys website product return. Advice please!

Hi, I purchased a Thomas train from the Tomy website in May. This was for my sons birthday at the end of June. After only a week the product had broken. I was just looking at how to return the product and they say that the postage cost to return the product, is non-refundable. The postage is going to cost £4.41. Basically are they allowed to charge for that as the item is faulty? An item that only cost £8.55 (+ £3.95 p&p) from their site is now going to cost a total of £16.91 and thats without the £7 for batteries!! I'm rather peeved about this and would expect a large company to pay for the cost of returning the item as it's faulty.
Many thanks in advance for any advice.
