I got Bullguard 8.5 on this newish Medion laptop. It's very good, but not cheap & the trial licence was only 90 days. But there's a way round!
1) get trial version of 8.5 from the Bullguard site: this will work for 90 days
bullguard.com/uk.aspx
2) Buy a copy of Bullguard 5 going cheap from Morgan Computers
morgancomputers.co.uk/bargains/detail.asp?ProductID=4479
currently GBP3.44 inc delivery.
3) Once this arrives (Morgan deliver v fast) just use the validation code from it to activate your trial version. You should find you end up with a full licence for a year plus the trial period!
Works for two years too, if you buy 2 copies of Bullguard 5. This computer is protected to 2011 for less than GBP7.
[sorry, as a newbie I can't post links yet, but you can work them out from the text]

How do you know the "free" ones are "better" when you havn't even researched Bullguard? Yes, Bullguard not Bulldog.0 -
lol, I meant Bullguard & yes I do know the product. It has improved significantly from when it became the default offering from NTL the firewall is better than windows but not as good as even the free Zonealarm, but the av scans are very very slow & nowhere near as good as AntiVir.
3out of 5 would be the score I would give it.0 -
Who needs antivirus anyway?0

Well, I'm not a huge fan of the products that take a "whollistic" view on protecting your system by incorporating lots of types of software and roll it into one. Although I must admit Bullguard is a lot better than such products from Norton/Symmantec that take over your system and are a SOB to remove.
Personally I use AntiVir as a free AV and other products for system protection like Malware Bytes/Spybot S&D and other 3rd party applications. Feel as though I have more individual control over them.
As for other possible alternatives, Microsoft Morro is looking quite promising as a free home user AV/AntiMalware complete protection system. You can download it by searching it and your OS I'm sure!0
