returns to comet

Options
hope this is in the right place.

we recently mentioned to a family member that our washer had broke down and we were finding it hard to afford one.

a few days later we got one cheap from the local paper.

however yesterday comet turned up to deliver a washer that the family member bought for us without telling us. we are really short of money at the minute and we wondered if we could return the washer for a refund.

we don't want to ask her for the receipt as we don't want to be ungreatful. we do have the delivery note with order and delivery numbers on it.

can we return it for a refund or would we only get a credit note?

thanks

Why dont you just sell the old one and keep the new one which someone in your family was kind enough to buy you.

Asking for the receipt wouldnt be ungrateful it would be a downright blumming cheek and a smack in the face. Tell her you dont need it by all means but let her return it and get her money back.

If i was the member of your family who bought this for you and i found out you had returned it i would be absolultey livid - wow
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

If your family member paid for it, then surely the contract with comet is with that person and only they are entitled to get the refund. If they paid on a credit or debit card, then the money would be returned to that card.

As McKneff said, sell the old one and keep the new one and be very very grateful that you have such kind and generous relatives.
  • That's nice of you, a family member is kind enought to buy you a new dryer and you want to send it back for a refund. Just look at it, how would you feel if it was the other way round.

Beside brand new dryer, nice new warranty.

Sell the old one, unless you want to be in someones bad books (and quite possibly anyone they tell about it) for a very long time.

  • I'd keep the shiny new one rather than upset a family member. Sell the other one on.

Comet may be reluctant to take it back if you have already unpacked it.

But that aside, why would you need to? Keep it, the person that bought it for you is incredibly generous and it'd a shame to get rid of it. It'll probably last longer than a second hand one, too
