Lacie External HD Problem

Hi
I'm having trouble with my external hard dive, if anyone could help i would really appreciate it.
The problem I'm having is that while the drive is in use it randomly reboots as if i had just plugged it in. This is causing no end of problems for me as i use it when producing music.
The drive is a Lacie d2 Big Disk Extreme

Is it powered from the mains, or running off a powered hub?
There may be a firmware update available for it on the website.
