Can't get my Egg cards closed!

I have two Egg cards - one Egg money, one Egg mastercard. I want to close them because I never use them but I can't! The Egg m/card shows up on my credit report as "settled", but is still functional as far as I can tell when I log into my Egg account. I have called up and gone through their torturous automated system, managed to get through to a human, who assured me he would close the accounts and was sending me a secure message as we spoke to confirm this. Nothing happened. I've sent them a secure message through their website, but no response.
Has this happened to anyone else?

settled effectively means closed, they won't be 'fully' closed until after the card has expired (in case you have any subscriptions on the card).
If there are any charges made to the card it will be reactivated, but there's nothing you can do to get the accounts fully closed
(this is common to all cards not just Egg)0 -
Thanks for the information, that's useful to know. It would have been nice if Egg had let me know about this when I spoke to them.0

The expiry date has nothing to do with it. If a CPA (for 3 yearly Sentinel CPP renewal for example) is represented in 2 years 11 months time - and even if the card has expired in the interim - it WILL be paid and the account re-opened....they won't be 'fully' closed until after the card has expired (in case you have any subscriptions on the card).0 -
Egg keep your account on-line for a while in case you need to access details.
This does not mean the account is open.
I suspect it's closed but they have left it available on line for you (that's what they did for me).0
