The maximum transfer speed between a hardwired device and a wireless device is 54Mb/s as the lowest speed will be maximum the two devices can communicate at - however this does not mean that the hard wired device is running at the slower speed, it's just how fast the slower one can accept the information.

If you hard wire two devices they will communicate at 100Mb/s without a problem so hard wired is faster, just not for talking to the laptop (wireless) or the internet!

P.S. The router will be just fine, it is worth having one device hardwired or at least have the ability to hardwire one to be able to change the wireless settings without loosing the connection while doing so.

    Hi All

I have looked through the wireless pages and some questions I have I can't seem to answer....

Have PC on blueyonder cable broadband, am going to buy the Dell Laptop with the integrated wireless stuff.

I want to go wireless with the laptop, I know I have to get a router was thinking Netgear 54mbps WGR614..But some Questions...

    1. Is is better to go wireless on the PC aswell as the laptop? are there any pros and cons? Or Should I leave it hardwired?

    2. is 54mbps going to be enough for a two bed terrace, All I will be doing is surfing web, emailing and downloading music. Or should I get the 108mbps?

    3. Is netgear one of the better options?!

I'm not too technical so go easy on me!!

    Thanks
Blimey thats a bit spooky you dont live in the same house as me do you!
I took the plunge yesterday and bought the dell too and also bought the belkin wireless router from dell at the same time. I have a bluyonder 4 meg connection too. Has anyone used this combo yet ? Any pitfalls, tips or anything else to do with this setup would be really appreciated. TIA
