Help With Egg! - Can They Demand This??

I finished off one of my cards last month, but it looks like Egg messed up as it looks like there was still £150 left to pay off but Egg closed the account.

where do I stand? Can egg demand the money from me even though the accout is closed? I would have thought that by closing the account they are closing the agreement etc.

A bit more of an explanation may help.

Where did the £150 come from? was it a purchase that you didn't pay off?

If you closed the account and it still had an outstanding balance on it - you still owe the money.

Although an account is closed - money can still be charged to the card for a certain period.

Did you know there was £150 outstanding on this card? Simple answer is of course you still owe it, if closing an account meant the debt was cancelled we'd all be doing it! Egg haven't messed up at all

I don't think that the time limit exists if the transaction(s) has been authorised. See, for example, Regular Payments off a Credit Card Discussion ...

    This is the full story...

I transferred £150 from BC Visa to my Egg card. A day after I made the transfer, Egg offered me a loan to pay off my card. I accepted the loan offer as the APR was lower, but they said that this loan would not cover the £150 being transferred onto my card. They said they would close my card account and that the £150 would be returned.

Well the £150 was not returned, and Egg are after it back.

just spoke with the lovely people at Egg. The amount is now £180 as they have added interest onto it. I have to call collections tomorrow to arrange to pay it off.

where do I stand? after fighting to reclaim bank charges, I'm up for another fight if anyone knows of any legalities. fair enough I owe the money, but their words to me at the time of taking out the loan were 'we will close your card', surely they should check whether any amount is owed before closing. the card has gone off my online account service, the account does not exist anymore so how can I pay it off??!!
