Prom dress Disaster!

Hi there am new to this site. Heard so much about it and am desperate for some good sound advice. Since October 2008 I have been paying for a prom dress for my 16 year old daughter. The dress was ready on 24th June . My daughter tried it all and all fitted as it should. I duly paid the remaining for the dress in cash as I had done with my previous payments. Four days later after ordering a petticoat My daughter tried on the dress again, all was fine. On the night of the prom 2cnd July 2009 25 mins before leaving I zipped the dress and the zipper came off in my hand, leaving back exposure and a gaping zip. Clearly we were very upset about it, all the kids and family were waiting along with the car to take all the kids to the prom. To cut a long story short we had to sew the dress on her and safety pin it!This did not hold as no strength in the temporary repair and therefore she did not enjoy or take part in her night, although she did wear the dress, but I have pictures to show how it looked from the back (as well as the front!)I returned the dress to Phantasy Kingdom the next day and basically they were incredibly unsympathetic but agreed to send the dress back to the factory to replace the zip free of charge. It was a long argument with them not willing to compensate me in any way, and insinuating that We had broken the zip that morning after the prom. I paid a total of £340 for the dress. Clearly I am very angry about their attitude and aftersales care. Does anyone have any good advice please. Im new on here added this post again as I think I put it in the wrong Place. Many Thanks Love and Light Jaksden.

ok well have you got any intended future use for the dress?
and what exactly do you want/ think you should get
starting with an apology of course
your situation is very strong so tell us what you expect and we can advise you bestBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -
£340 for a prom dress???????? GULP!
Did you show them the photos taken at the house before the prom when the zip ripped?
Given the situation, I guess there wasn't really another option other than attempt a repair so the dress could actually be worn. Although you do say that your daughter didn't take part in the event, so are you saying she didn't go?
For £340 I'm hoping she was planning on wearing it more than once! The very least the shop can do is apologise, and perhaps give you a small discount for ruining your daughter's prom night, or maybe even a full refund, and they can have the dress back!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I would argue that the goods are not 'fit for purpose' or of 'merchantable quality' under the Sale of Goods Act and ask for my money back.
Unfortunately the shop will probably think that your daughter wore the dress for the night, and now you just want the money back. But that is up to them to prove.
Why not contact your local trading standards and see what they say?Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0 -
The zip was faulty, the dress was faulty.I agree to contact trading standards.0

The very least the shop should be offering is a repair so that the dress could be used again. Either that or a replacement (I'm not sure that they have to offer a full refund, they can just offer to replace the dress but Trading Standards would put you right on that).0
