Please could anyone help?
My husband has just broken his leg and is self employed...so unable to work for the next 6-8 weeks.
Stupidly we havent any insurance to cover this...(i know really daft) but now its happened and we are in financial trouble.
I earn £13,500 and we have two children at college, with £1,500 of savings (which wont last very long).
Are there any benefits for the self employed in these circumstances?
A friend was surprised that we werent receiving tax credits before as my husband was earning approx £16,000 in his last tax year. But I didnt think self employed could receive them.
I'm starting to panic now as its going to take a while to recover fully even when his plaster is taken off. I have never claimed anything before and havent a clue how to go about it..where do i start?
I'm normally very frugal anyway (even better with this site), but i'm going to pull in even tighter.
Thankyou

He might be entitled to Contribution Based Employment and Support Allowance, which has replaced Incapacity Benefit, and this can be claimed over the phone.
He will need a sickline - I doubt that will be a problem.

He can claim Employment and Support Allowance, he will need to get a sick note from his Doctor to start the claim.

What tax credits are talking about working tax credits or child tax credits.
If it is working tax credits and you worked last year and earned the same last year as this and include you husband income that is £29.5k very doubtful you would get any.
But child tax credits are different and again these come in two flavours one being child tax credits and the other being child care tax credits. You can earn up to £58K and still get them.
all the best.
