The best way to perform a balance transfer?

in Credit cards
Hello, i'm a newbie and have been lurking for quite a while, particularly around the Old School Money Saving forum
About 18 months ago, i was one of those people who had their credit agreement ended with Egg for two credit cards because my lending profile wasn't satisfactory for them. So i have two cards with fairly hefty balances and i'm obviously paying a fair bit in interest. I no longer have the physical cards as i cut them up about 3 years ago (before Egg even finished my agreements).
I've just applied for and been successful in getting a HSBC 0% card and want to transfer the balance from one of my Egg cards to it. What i want to know is whether it's better to just do the balance transfer using HSBC internet banking? Or whether to call Egg and make a payment directly to them. Ordinarily i'd just go for the first option, but they're asking for "Name on (Egg) Card" which i obviously don't know as i don't have the card anymore.
Perhaps i'm just over complicating things, but i really don't want the transfer to fail because i tried to have a guess at what name would have been on the card.
What do i do? If you transfer a balance, how do you usually go about it?

Ahem...that's your name.they're asking for "Name on (Egg) Card" which i obviously don't know as i don't have the card anymore.
You tell HSBC, either on the application form, in person in branch, or via phone that you want to transfer a balance to their card. They'll then do all the work for you.If you transfer a balance, how do you usually go about it?0 -

Smarty Pants
What i mean is that on every credit or debit card i've ever had, my name has appeared differently, for instance if my name was A.N.Other (original i know), my name might have appeared as
Miss A N Other
A N Other
Annie N Other
Annie Nora Other
Miss Annie Nora Other.
Does it not matter really? If that's the case i'll just do it through HSBC.House deposit fund:

I've had in excess of 20 credit cards over the last 4 years or so and made numerous BT's. I remember that HSBC were the only ones (or certainly in a very small minority) to ask for 'name on the account'. Everyone else just asked for provider name (eg Egg) and 16 digit card number. From that I can deduce it's not really relevant.Does it not matter really?
However, if you can still log on to your Egg Card account maybe it'll tell you there what you/they called yourself back then?0 -
I tried that and unfortunately for me it doesn't say either on my online statements or my original credit agreement.
I thought calling Egg and asking them what the name on my non-existant card was might be either A) Ridiculous, or
kind of suspicious.

Just been online...
My Egg Money credit agreement says (to use your options)...
'Annie Other'
Yet my card says...
'Mrs Annie N Other'
I'm of the opinion it won't matter a jot what format you give HSBC.0 -
Okie doke, thanks a lot
