Well I never got round to learning to drive (Only got as far getting a provisional)- then my sight started going four years ago and they took my provisional licence off me.
o on the plus side I guess I saved cash in not paying for lessons.
I was registered for my sight loss at the hospital / council. They sorted me a buss pass which is great.
Incidentally there is a dial - a ride / link a bus where I am in Bedfordshire but to get it you have to give up your bus pass. At the momoent I can just about see well enough not to walk into people so I am trying to hang onto the bus pass.
Do I miss not being able to drive? Nope, but only because I never did it.I can't SEE what I'm typing - so sorry for any mistakes0 -

When I spoke to her I certainly didn't have any impression at all that she was fully controlled. I was appalled. Had I known at the time I'd have told her the errors of her ways. It was discussed briefly at a meeting today. I have printed the leaflet from Epilepsy Action on Driving and the Law.
If you know her then report her to the DVLA. If she has given you the impresion she is having seizures day time then she is breaking the law and risking her and everyone else on the road lives.
I'd report someone I knew and expect someone to do the same if I was foolish enough(I'm not) to drive whilst uncontrolled, unlicenced and uninisured as that would be invalidated by a lie!0 -

It really annoys me. They don't stop to think about the 'what if' scenario - if there was a driver with epilepsy who caused an accident that involved them or their family. Wouldn't be OK then! I have voluntarily surendered by licence twice. My wife had a single episode a few years back and even though it turned out to be the one and only, she was still advised to tell DVLA by a neurologist as there was an element of doubt, even though al tests were normal, as it so often the case even in people who go on to have recurrent seizures like I do (although my EEG does now show epileptiform activity but didn't for years). My wife stopped driving immediately anyway and didn't drive again until she had the new licence in her possession. Actually I did as well those two times, first in 1976 then again in 1992.0 -
I completed the DVLA medical fitness form about 6 weeks ago and am still waiting a response. I believe they will revoke my license due to my bipolar disorder. I know I am too unstable, at risk of killing myself with my car and medication affects my ability to think and react. I am just waiting for them to tell me so. I want them to hurry up so I can apply for a bus pass. I am fed up of being stuck at home. There may not be much of a bus service here, but it would be better than nothing.0

Does anyone know what a DVLA assessment is if you suffer from a physical condition that might stop you from driving? It must be more than just filling a form in..0

You just fill in their medical form, they then investigate. They may or may not call you in for an actual medical and by signing the form you are giving them permission to contact your GP and/or consultant.
They did my assesment based only on the only form I filled out. I spoke to GP & Consultant and they didnt contact them. But then mine was 'simple' I suppose, have you had a seizure - yes - rejection) I knew I would be rejected but filled it in to make them leave me alone. As it was a year after I had surrended they kept sending me the forms to fill in. I phoned to tell them I wouldnt be filling it in but they kept on sending it!!!
