Can anyone recommend a cheap UK based web-hosting company. I'm looking for a package which supports pop3 e-mail (preferably with web access too).

I've looked at Heart and Free Virtual Servers but would like to compare others if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Do you NEED it to be UK based?

Google Apps if you just want email and the possibility of sticking a few simple web pages up. Completely free when you click-thru enough pages aimed at businesses. It's not English tho.

Afraid it needs to be UK based or bill in sterling for VAT purposes and it needs to be somewhere I can host a site for a business so no on Google.

www.OVH.co.uk then. UK-based (for billing purposes), out of this world service, and excellent prices. Been using their RPS products for 6 months now.

Start off with the free service from Heart and then go from there

I use Ukhost4u, have had no problems with them and they are VERY quick to respond to my e-mails if I have questions.

hmmm not sure that's allowed as you have a vested interest in such

Hmm 'Julestp' touting for business, someone's already gone for the rope... you had better run, you'll be swinging from the nearest tree before you know it ;)

Incidentally 'Heart' = https://www.heartinternet.co.uk was the company founded out of 123-reg.co.uk when they sold out, so the rumour mill suggests. So they know what they're doing, they also offer as the other poster suggested a 'free' amount of hosting and are in the UK, I've got one of my domains listed there and they've been fine, very helpful too I might add.

No other vested interests however, don't own a hosting company or shares in one etc.

It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.
