delwyn, are you serious? Anyone, except maybe an employee of, or someone who trades with, lastminute would want to know of scams by the travel industry!

Most consumers would want you to condemn such scams and immoral practices!

    Why not you?

Yeah im serious, there was an error on the system and the point has been made

Sometimes websites can fall down in places, what I always do is look at the package seperate to see if it looks ligitimate

You can tell usually when something is an error

As you were looking to book your trip online, did you not have the opportunity to search and book with another company, rather than pay lastminute.com phone charges when your online booking failed at the payment stage?

I'll be honest, if I had any trouble phoning any agent/holiday company when they didn't even have my money yet, I wouldn't bother booking with them at all. I'd be off searching for another company who would be more deserving of my business.

Somewhat silly and pedantic replies by several posters. The incident happened and calling it a scam is what I would use as its evidently something lastminute try frequently on customers in an organised fashion. A rip off is similar but means something slightly different.

    What then?

My definition of a scam is you get nothing for your money, a rip-off you pay over the odds.

As this is an old thread, how did you get on OP?

I wouldn't call it a 'scam' as you HADN'T booked yet, yes you had found a price you liked, butt it's not like you paid then they rang you up saying you actually had to bay hundreds more. That would be more like a scam..no?
Also, I booked with them to go to New York next month, and the price had dropped (ok, only £10 per person) from the original price to the price at the end when I was paying. That is not a scam, ha!

It is, however, a shame and frustrating when you find a price you like and then told it's no longer available.

dmg24, the holiday was a last minute thing for 2 daughters from Australia and as you ought to know last minute prices to Paris are often inflated in order to sap the business marketn in particular who tend to make bookings at the last minute. I cldn't make the booking earlier as the Passport Office kept my new passport for far longer than usual, OK?

A little sympathy for your fellow consumers might go a long way!

I could book a holiday in Paris for this weekend for a few hundred pounds. I stand by my original point!
    Gone ... or have I?
