in Credit cards
Hi there,
I received today a letter from Mackensie Hall attempting to contact me regarding a personal matter, so I phones tem up asking what they wanted and it transpired that they are chasing a debt on behalf of Baclaycard for over £1100 ! I did indeed have a barclaycard acc ages ago, from 2001 until 2003/04 I think. As far as I can remember I owed them nothing even though I had a few problems with them regarding payment.
They gave me 10 days to prove that I have settled this account...Do you know what can I do ??
Please help !!
I lost my job 1 month ago and there is no way I can pay anything
I have a 6/7 months old experiant credit report without anything on it, so shall I worry ?
Thanks,

Mackenzie Hall are well known for chasing debts which are statute barred.
If you haven't acknowledged the debt in writing, or made any payment for the last 6 years, then they cant chase you for it.
I would sit tight until you get another letter, and then send a prove it letter. (a few templates floating around on the dfw board). It is up to Mackenzie Hall to prove you owe the debt, not you to prove you don't, don't let them tell you otherwise.
Do not phone them again, they will try and bully you into making a payment. Whatever you do, do not make a payment, and only communicate in writing.
The chances of this debt being statute barred are very high, don't worry as if they chase you when it is statue barred they're going against OFT rules.
Hope this helps.
EDIT - just read that it's not appearing on your credit record. I would be inclined to send the statute barred letter instead of the other one. Send it recorded, and don't put your signature on it.
Here is the template for statute barred.
