Hey all, just looking for some advice really as im very VERY new at this. Ive been with abbey/santander for 12 years and theyve sent me an application form for their "santander zero credit card" saying that i will definitely be accepted.
My mum read through it all and said that it seemed like a good option as i wont be using it for everyday things as im a student, but that it would be there just for emergencies.
We read through the Ts&Cs and everything was clear apart from the £10 dormancy charge. We were just wondering whether this was a monthly or yearly charge?
Any opinions on whether this is a good option or are there many better ones out there?
Many Thanks

Hi
This fee is a charge that Abbey Santander will charge you if you DO NOT use the credit card in a 6mth period, hence a Dormancy fee. The way to avoid the £10 charge, is to use the card once, even for a small transaction of £5, and then don't use it again for another six months, that way, the account is not classed as dormant, and you save yourself the £10 charge.
Hope this helps. The Gazelle was advized of this only this afternoon in their branch.0 -

A Dormancy Charge may be the least of your problems:-
See:- http://www.banking-guide.org.uk/bank-abbey.html
If you can get a C.C. anywhere else, rather do that (IMO).0 -
The dormancy fee only applies if you don't use the card for 6 months. Anyways, with any credit card you should make sure you use it every month, as this is what looks best on your credit file. Just make one transaction and make sure you pay the bill in full, or set up a DD to pay the full amount.
Edit: Also, don't return the form by post but pop in to a local branch and apply there instead. The processing is much quicker if a branch deals with the application.0 -
Santander seem to fail to grasp basic communication skills:
As per others, I found the "£10 dormancy fee" listed - but I cannot find any mention of what it is or how it is determined anywhere on their website, hence my visit here. Seems extraordinary that it's possible to apply without being able to see T&Cs... It makes me feel they can't be trusted as a company.
I'm sticking to my Nationwide card.0
