Mobile Phone not working

Hi guys.
(I know, I know. Drama seems to attract to me, right?)
A few weeks ago my mobile phone - an LG Viewty - stopped working. It took a photo, and while processes it it died. It comes up wiht a yellow screen and "Refreshing" written on it and wouldn't do anything else. I tried all the standard stuff, turning on and off, taking the battery out, nothing.
I took it into o2 and was told it could be fixed under warrenty. Although I don't seem to be able to find an exact date of purchase (My contract was just a continued contract on the same plan) I know it was in June sometime, and I handed the phone over in June.
After a full week o2 ring to tell me that it can't be repaired under warrenty because the waarenty has expired. At the time I didn't think things through and just told them to transfer the repair onto the insurance I had taken out against the phone. They agreed to that but are waiting on me paying the excess on the policy before the repairs take place.
They are still waiting for this so I guess the phone hasn't been repaired yet. Everything is, as far as I'm aware, pending my excess payment.
However, I've now come to wonder if there's any legislation that would support me getting it repaired for free? Isn't there something that supports the consumer for 6 years?

Yes there is legislation, but before you go down that route have you tried any of the firmware flashes from the website before pursue any other means? It might be an easy solution?
Alternatively, choose one of the letters sugested on this page: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/theoneshow/consumer/2009/07/03/sale_of_goods_act_letter_downl.html fill in the relevant details and wait for a reply.
Also dig around for that receipt, or perhaps you got a letter or some other kind of proof with a contract and the handset?
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
ABH, I don't have any way of getting the firmware onto my phone. In one of my moves this year, the cable was in a bag that still hasn't been recovered, presumed lost forever!
I've been right through all my documents, which I usually keep religiously, and can track my contract right back to when I took it out in 2004 but am missing that one document that gives me the date of purchase! Very frustrating!
Thank you for the link though!:j [STRIKE]Debt Free[/STRIKE] Savings Wannabe! :jCurrent problems: £107 overdrawn in bank, £112 in unpaid DD'sSavings made: £00
