Two points to note about cordless phones:

    1) Do they have a keypad lock facility? I've accidentally called the emergency services on one before that hasn't.

    2) What's the audio quality like to the other party? My Lidl ones sound rather distorted, even though the other party sounds fine to me.

And as for these not being GAP-compatible - i.e. they won't work with anything other than other Philips handsets - well there's no excuse for that. Perhaps Philips are "doing a Sony" and trying to lock out competition.

Wonder if anyone owns or has tried a Southwestern Bell MX2102 Cordless Telephone - twin pack is £25 at Argos (down from £60).

I'm a right in thinking this doesn't have an answering machine?

Goofgat: I had a Southern Bell phone aeons ago. They are always at the cheaper end. But I have to say I don't remember any trouble with it. These look a good deal. Need a new phone desperately as screen disappeared off mine and they are only 2 years old! But, skint, skint, skint.....
    Stop looking for answers....

Yes, no answering machine according to specs listed at http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/phones/cordless-phones/474618/details, but apparently they're GAP compatible. G

I got these phones (there's a pair in the box) - ordered on sunday night - arrived tuesday by courier.
Spot on top quality, no complaints at all, even includes batteries.
    Thanks to the original poster.
