in Credit cards
Hi Folks!
I previously lived with my sister for the last 3.6 years, but my name was not on the voters register. back then I did not know the importance.
I have only ever bought something on credit once with a mail order company for £100 at my present address.
I would like to apply for a credit card, I currently live in rented accomodation, and on the voters register for 2005 and 2006.
I dont know the previous occupants credit history. Will it count against me.
I am sharing with 2 other people, will their history count in assessing my application ? even though we have no joint finances
I have read all the articles on credit rating and scoring. I only have that mail order purchase which I paid off.
I do not want to spoil whatever credit position I currently have, can someone please advise me whether I can apply, if so which company is most likely to approve a credit card virgin like me.
Capital one, Vanquis, Mint, American express(nectar)have been posting thru our letter box ?
I am in full time employment and earn 15k p.a, no c.c.j or bankrupt
I am grateful for any and all usefull advice

Hi modu,
The previous occupant's history will not count against you. In the unlikely event that your credit record shows their history, you can get the information removed.
Don't just go for one that comes through your door, they are no more likely to approve you. As far as I can tell, they are usually not the best ones - good deals don't need to advertise like that.
It doesn't sound like you should have a problem being accepted, though you would get a low limit I think. How long have you had your bank account? If you are nervous of lots of credit searches, it might be best to start by asking your bank for one - they know you and how you manage your money (hence me asking how long you've had the account).0 -
Order your £2 credit reports and check them. If there are some associations, follow regular procedure to remove them:modu wrote:...I dont know the previous occupants credit history. First approach the bank you have your current account with. If refused, try one of these: Capital One Classic, Vanquis, Aqua, Barclaycard Initial. In 6+ months you will be able to apply for a better card. Just don't make any stupid things. Pay balance in full by Direct Debit and don't go over your credit limit.I only have that mail order purchase which I paid off.

Thanks for the advice Waterbaby, I have recently changed my bank account that I had for 6years to H.S.B.C last month.
If I had known it would be important in applying for credit card, then I would not have.0
