Cards and Mortgage

I am just in the process of buying my first house. My mortgage application has been submitted and I'm just waiting for the property survey.

I want to buy some furniture from M+S (using my current M+S card) and then balance transfer onto a 0% card.

I haven't yet applied for the new 0% card (planning on going for Virgin at the moment) as I am wary of doing anything that might affect my mortgage application. However, I'm also aware that I'll probably get a better limit on the 0% card if I apply earlier?!?

When should I apply? Any hints and tips?

  • I applied for two cards just before applying for a Britannia mortgage. Thye have credit checked me and not flagged up any issues. I did not increase my debt though, just BT some money and closed the old cards.
