I run my own business, which is two fold, I work for one client which bring in enough to cover all my outgoings, but I have the potential to attract newer clients which I can work with alongside my main client and almost double my income. This is something which i'm hoping to reduce my debts more rapidly.

I do find though, by only just living in my overdraft, I have a tendency to go over briefly, and thus incurring bloody charges.

So hopefully my business can develop more so and I can get back on my feet.

Ok. today is going well, saving money everywhere, not bad for a Sunday :)

However, i'm considering using Madasafish for my Broadband, its been recommneded in Martin's tips, but i'm always sceptical, the speed is 5 times my current speed, and is at most £7 cheaper a month.

Anyone have any opinions on this?

have you seen the amount of rubbish/repeats on there!!!!

No seriously have a look.....at least the same programme on BBC/ITV isn't repeated 3 times a week!

If you really don't want to ditch sky monitor which channels you do watch on a regular basis and then see if you can save money by ditching those channels you don't watch. Even if its only a few ££s a month at least that a few more £££s that can be thrown at the debt.

As for landline phones I've only used BT for the line rental now for over a year and my phone bills have dropped dramatically to the exent that when BT phoned me to try and get me back in the fold, my reply was that was unless they paid ME they were always going to be dearer!

Well Sky as far as i'm concerned is reduced to the level that i'm happy with. I'm basically paying for Sports Channels which I use, and Music for my wife, and then all the free ones. I think its possible to take this step to far, I mean we can say listen to the Radio rather than watch MTV, but its entertainment, and without - what have you got? We're not the kind if people who can sit around and read. I'm a child of the 80's - its the way it is, so I have made the most reduction I can there.

    Cheers anyway,

However, how much line rental do you pay for BT? How much is your monthly bill?

Madasafish is very well thought of on here, loads of people are on it!

Martins tips do seem to be the best out there...

Ive just moved onto Primus 2 (0.00 for free evening & weekend calls up to an hour & a half in length, 1p after that, cost 0.00 per month). My attitude is, well why not try it? Ive had pants service from the so called top companies before so why not try someone else- and they are being recommended no end on here.

and I do appreciate even though you may be money saving you need/want little treats but do you or your wife watch the history/documentary channels? Do you watch the cartoon channels or the news channels? Even if you got rid of the news channel package you still get Sky News - which is the biggest bag of repeats believe me, there is, lol!

If not and by ditching these (and believe me I wouldn't have the cartoon/music channel if it weren't for my son!) you can still have your sports channel and your wife can watch her entertainment channels and still save some money! Its worth having a look at the sky web site to fully see what I mean - as I said it may only be save a few ££ but better in your pocket than in someone elses!

As for my telephone bill well I only pay BT for line rental and I pay that by DD so I save £1 per month. Up until last month I was on a deal with onetel that gave me free evening and weekend calls to landlines with no fee attached but I cahanged recently to primus for again free evening and weekend calls to landlines but although I pay £2.99 per month I signed up with a deal which means that every 3 months THEY pay ME £15 so in effect I'M being paid £2.01 each month to stay with them.

For all rare calls outside this time I use 1899 which means I can dial another landline for only 3p regardless of how long the call is and where I'm calling.

I also now avoid using 0870/0845 numbers like the plague - by using https://www.saynoto0870.com web site.

And this is from a person who used to hide the phone bills from her other half because she knew he would blow his top at the size of them but now proudly shows him how little they are!

Incidentally NIck, for the running your own business bit, are you claiming the Vat back where you can? I dont know much about this, but your accountant will.

I will be, I have all my expenses and invoices ready to be accounted, I do know that I can claim 1/5 of my household expenses that are directed to the businesses against my TAX, I don't charge VAT because my turnover is below the threshold.

Well i've just got off the phone from, well lets say it wasn't a local call, to Wanadoo, apart from struggling to understand the cancellation guy, they have agreed to give me a cheaper tariff, probably trying to maintain my custom. However, they are saying that I can't get faster than 1mb where I am, yet Madasafish, BT and Wanadoo's own site reckon they I get 6mb. So i'll be calling BT in the morning to confirm, and I may dump Wanadoo for being liars!

That Primus sounds great, i'll discuss it with my wife later on. Does anyone know if premium calls in the day cost the same with Primus. My wife plays the This Morning competitons, about twice a week, so its not a massive dent, plus it keeps her quiet. :)

Also Sky won't let me change my package for 31 days now, I didn't realise I could lose the documentary and history channels too.

If no one has recommended https://www.quidco.co.uk to you, do have a nose at that. I got £8 from quidco, via uswitch to get my free primus contract. When you go on there, have a look and see what the daily charges are. I havent bothered as Im so seldom around in the daytime. Tell your wife to give those comps up, next thing you know she'll be at Quizgo or whatever those godawful quiz channels are on sky/ freeview!!
