If like me you read lots of books it's always good to see a bargain, today in Waterstones they had a display stand of maybe 15 or 20 novels, the sign said "Try me for 99p", so I checked it's not half a book, you don't have to pay £6 for the ending honest, you really can get a book for 99p.
Some decent authors, Lisa Gardiner I have read a couple of her's before.
Asda and Tesco lowered the bar with £3.73 books, Sainsbury's need to catch up as their's are £4.99, being a moneysaver and wanting to spread the word I told a couple of people browsing the book aisle in Tesco;)

A great forum spot. Waterstones have confirmed this is a nationwide offer available in all stores and will run to at least mid May. Look out for the special stands in stores.

I have had a couple of 99p "try me" books from Ottakers (aren't they the same company now?) and it's a fantastic deal. These were for a limited time though. Perhaps Waterstones will have it as a permanent feature.0

Thanks for this one, off to waterstones in my lunch hour tomorrow, fingers crossed they have a 99p section! Does anyone know if all Waterstones do this, or was it just one branch having a clear out?0

The books I bought either have a sticker or it's printed on the actual cover like a sticker so I would assume it's all branches.0

of course you can buy the Times every week and collect an award winning paper back for 99p - 11 weeks to goTreat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0

My Waterstones does it too. Great bargain spent £7.92 of my daughter's book token which I had bought from her so that she could put the cash towards her laptop savings account and got to try a few new authors! Which is the whole point. Cheaper than some of the charity shops which are my usual suck it and see port of call for trying new books. Apart from the library that is. :A0

Why not have a look on Amazon.co.uk for new and used copies of books that you want to read - some are selling for 1p plus post and packaging!"This site is addictive!"

I rarely pay more than a couple of quid for a book, frequently more like 25-50p. "Where's this great discount book emporium?" I hear you ask. Why, my local charity shop of course.
Books are one of those things that are as good second-hand as they are new (since the words are the same whether the book is new or not). Specialist shops such as Oxfam Books give a really wide choice, and with books at such low prices, it's nice to surprise yourself by picking something that looks interesting but you haven't heard of.0 -

I agree it's great but sadly the library is open less than full time hours, used to be open till 7.30 4 nights a week, plus the stock is dreadful, no decent contemporary writers at all in ours.
I never get anything decent at charity shops either, sometimes get a bagful from the local bootfair.0 -
Your local library will order in books at your request. Libraries within the same local authority order in books from each other or a decision is made on whether to purchase a new title which is not held within any local authorty library. There is a small charge, i think 50p I paid . I have never waited more than a few weeks for an ordered title, hope this helps.0
