Good price for a car tyre?
Hi,
One of my friends has recently bought a second hand Suzuki Alto car, and needed to pay for a front tyre (driver side).
The price paid was £40.54: £35.25 for the tyre itself, plus £5.29 VAT.
Just wondering: is this a reasonable price? It's the first time he's had to pay for a tyre.
Thanks.

It really depends on the make of the tyre. If it is a 145/80 12 size tyre then I've found fitted prices online from £20-£45.
If it's the first time he's had a tyre fitted then I'm guessing that his answer to the question "Do you want a good quality tyre fitted?" was a "yes", therefore he was probably given the better and more pricier option.
If the tyre was a reputable brand then he hasn't been ripped off.0 -
Not the cheapest around but as they are the only thing keeping you on the road and not stuck out of a lamp-post well worth the money, I only wish mine where that priceTotally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0

Hi, Apparently, it was a '155/65/13 Budge' - Anyone know what all that stands for?It really depends on the make of the tyre. If it is a 145/80 12 size tyre then I've found fitted prices online from £20-£45.

Quite a nice little article here that explains what the tyre markings mean :

And Budge will just be the manufacturer - although bear in mind that quite often a manufacturer will produce tyres of a different brand name - so you may find that Budge is actually made by Pirelli or Dunlop or someone.0 -

'Budge' is probably short for 'budget' tyre. Kwik Fit (don't ever use them if you can help it!) have an online price of £29 for their cheapest ones (I'm assuming inc. VAT) though this doesn't include the other stuff (balance, valve, disposal) which probably adds another £5-£7.
If he used a local garage then they'll probably be a bit more expensive anyway. He still hasn't been ripped off, but a few phone calls may have got him a better tyre for the same price.0 -
Bargain, mine cost £180 a corner.0
