Hotels in Rome

My OH and I are *hopefully* off to Rome on the 24th July for 3 nights, but because we have left it late i am having trouble trying to find a nice hotel. I'm looking for a nice 3* or 4* hotel, which has a great location and within walking distance to most things, and costs no more than £350 for 3 nights.

If anybody can recommend a nice place to stay it would be much appreciated. I spent 3.5 hours last night on Tripadvisor, but either the hotel was booked, or the reviews were just really bad.

Thanks in advance for your help :A

We stayed at the Best Western Mondial ws ok walkable to the Colluseaum Trevi fountain and many other places but maybe too far from Vatican we went by the Hop on Hop off for that.

    Try www.bestwestern.com

Even if it's not within walking distance of what you want to see, just try and get one close enough to a metro station. There's only a couple of lines but they take you close to most of the tourist hot spots and with a day ticket it's inexpensive.
Regarding hotels, I stayed recently at The Aphrodite and was quite happy although it was only one night and I didn't see much of the hotel.

hi i'm also going to rome, and im not sure what location to get my hotel in is there a particular area that i should be looking for?....

im going for 2 nights, so want to obviously take in as many tourist attractions as possible....

i think that would mean visiting the vatican, is this in rome city centre or outside?

Also what else should i be looking to see?...other tourist "must see" attractions?

I would lik a hotel to be city centre based so in the evening go for meals and drinsk to bars/clubs is close by....

    thanks

Near the Termini (main rail station) gets bad press but my hotel was near there and I didn't have any problems. I was sitting outside at a streetside cafe bar for a while with no hassle. It's handy for buses to/from airport (I flew out of Ciampino) and also obviously trains if you're travelling on anywhere. The Vatican is central enough and a short walk from a metro station.
  • Whilst I initially wanted a Hotel within walking distance, I eventually settled on the Waldorf Astoria B&H, which is 3*s and includes breakfast.

It was a lovely hotel, good staff, and breakfast was well appointed for european standards. Cornelia is the nearest Metro station and within 8-15 mins the metro will whisk you into town as you are not at all far out.

The area it is in is safe and leafy and you honestly don't notice the difference of not being right in the centre. The metro has only two, relatively short lines, is fairly modern, and ticket machines can all work in English.

Besides which, some of Rome's sights are not within walking distance of each other! You certainly won't regret it. My advice is spend more time looking for decent places to eat rather than decent places to stay, as this was our biggest problem, and make sure you visit the Spanish Steps at sunset :)

Me too ... but we're looking for something cheap and cheerful (but clean), just OH and I off for a long desired break. Not too fussed about distance as we're happy to hop on / hop off the metro type thingamy!! Anything for about £50 ish per night room only. We're going November time.

Anyone recommend any good tour books?

We stayed in a Holiday Inn in one of the suburbs and got the metro in each day to sight see. Meant that we could eat in local restaurants at night and the standard of food was much higher and massively cheaper.

You could try https://www.accorhotels.com as they own Novotel Ibis Mercure etc and have anumber of hotels in Rome. We stayed at a lovely hotel in the Trastevere district which was very quiet and loads of superb restaurants nearbyohttp://www.htlsantamaria.com/
