    If it's your money, yes.

Sounds like they haven't closed your account properly.

Did you get a final bill at your new address?

it was powergen and it took them ages to sort out my account,i did have sort of a final bill, but money keeps appering in the account online,i suppose it could be mine, but as i have not paid anything to them for a while maybe its not mine.

my hubby said if its in my name its mine ,but i am not sure.

    That's the critical bit.

If they've left the account in your name - but it's reflecting money paid by the new owner - it would be fraudulent to claim it.

Edit - You posted again with more detail as I sent this. If you're that confused - ask them. They will know whose credit it is.

It doesn't matter its their money.

If they notice that their money has disaapeared they will be asked to provide receipts to confirm they paid the account and this will be transferred to a new account for them, which will be re-started from the correct date/reads etc.

Don't do it - it isn't your money and you know it.

It is YOUR responsibility to notify a supplier when you move house, terms and conditions will usually state you can be held responsible for any energy used upto the timeyou notify them too, rather than just when you moved out.

We had an outstanding bill from our last supplier which left us 130 pounds in credit.
They never got in touch to give us the moeny, we had to chase them up, and they did send us a cheque.
Phone the company and ask what the story is. If you don't ask you don't get.

The new customers will have a different acocunt number, so I doubt it's their money...

this happened to my mom last year, she wasnt sure if it was hers, so she rang the old supplier and said "when i left your company, one of your representatives said in the next few months i may have a credit due to me" obviously this was made up, they looked at the account, and the amount was infact due to her, as she had paid too much on her final bill.
Even if its just to satisfy your curiosity, ring them, give them a blag like my mom used, and you'll get an answer

I had this situation a long time ago because someone else had set up and standing order and got one digit wrong in their reference number and I received their credits. Eventually got sorted.

Just keep a clear record of how much, and when, you made payments.
