TRAINS IN ITALY!

Train service really easy to use. We booked tickets in advance via raileurope (i think!), but when we went on a daytrip , we used the ticket machine in the station which had english language option. Train tickets automatically reserve seats for long distances...we had to kick some interlopers out of ours!
Advise you to book musuems in advance...we used the florence version of this site...

...very user friendly and excellent service. It also felt very good strolling past the 4 hour long queue into the Uffizi as we already had tickets!
Just another money saving tip...if either of you are teachers then take some proof with you. I got into quite a few musuems cheap as there is a special teacher rate.
Have a great honeymoon

There has been an Italian train collision on the Verona-Bologna line (just north of Bologna) killing 13 - involving a regionale express train and a freight train.

I have always found the https://www.trenitalia.it site very easy to use and understand. I would thoroughly recommend you buy your tickets from the machines on the platform and reserve seats, just costs a few euros extra. There is no mercy shown if you do not clip your ticket before you board the train.0

Consider an eurodomino ticket this is a rail pass, saves buying tickets in Italy can do excursions not tied down to any particular train, unlimited travel distance.
The negative side to eurodom is that you have to pay for seat reservations on those trains that require them and high speed trains (Italian) Eurostar carry a supplement.
If only travelling relatively short to middle distances don't bother fares in Italy are quite cheap.
Check out the Rail Europe site as previously mentioned.Waddle you do eh?0 -

My piece of advice would be to see if any local travel agents are able to book before you go. Doing this you can also reserve seats aswell.
We did it with a company called Gates Travel in Kendal, Cumbria. They gave excellent service and their knowledge was invaluable when finding the best routes and prices.
Fingers crossed there's someone local to you who can do this aswell.
Good luck0
