Oops, too late to edit the title!
Hello all,
I have read various onlin reports that state a large percentage of home sales are going through withut the seller having a HIP, which I thought was good news! Sadly the local Estate Agents in Milton Keynes seem to have been hit/scared hard and are refusing to market without one in place.
I have looked online and the prices vary from £140-£180. My Estate agent said that they could be dodgy and its far better to pay their £270 fee
Has anyone used any of the cheaper online firms, if so a recommendation would be much appreciated as I dont want to get ripped off and have to pay twice!

Since April this year it's been illegal to put your house on the market without a basic HIP in place. Your EA isn't being difficult about this.
We used hips4u and found them to be efficient and good value (about £200). Other MSEers have mentioned different online providers and I'm sure they'll let you know which.
Good luck with the stressful process of selling a home.0 -
What's the source of the online reports?
As prev poster says, it's illegal not to have one, and it's the EA that will be fined if there isn't one, so it seems the good EAs of Milton Keynes are heading in the right direction.0 -
Please forgive the fact its the Daily Mail:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1195764/Half-home-sales-going-HIPs.html
I have asked my EA to reduce their fee by 0.3% to make up the difference in cost between their HIP and the one I have seen on the net.0 -
My Estate Agent has agreed to reduce their (already reduced) sale fee by £100, so as long as my house sells I will be paying the same for their HIP as I would have been the one on the net......0

What will happen if the house doesn't sell, or your estate agents proves to be less than satisfactory? Is your HIP portable?
Not sure its worth the agro for £100.
Probably best to go with a local independent HIP provider who have are IPPA approved.0
