my hubby wants to put all our videos of the kids onto dvd but we aint got a dvd recorder yet...:rolleyes: so he wants to know if he can buy a cable to connect from video player to pc then burn onto dvd through dvd writer if so where would be the best place (and cheapest) to get a cable from putting onto dvd would create tons of space for me:j

you'd need a capture device for your PC + cables + software + the patience to get them all working together :rolleyes:

I do it (using a bottom-of-the-range Hauppauge WinTV internal card), and its fine. But, unless you enjoy the challenge, I'd agree with comments in the thread above, i.e. go with the standalone DVD recorder.
Using your PC as a full 'PVR' (personal video recorder) is pretty cool though - I now use it instead of VCR, but still the simplicity of a standalone DVD recorder cant be underestimated...

after thought... if you have a DV cam there are other ways to get that data onto your PC directly via a Firewire cable. I was thinking more generically: any VHS tape onto DVD via your PC. I dont know about going direct from a camcorder/DVcam...0
