Notebook Repairs

I bought an Asus Notebook back in May this year online from Simplyasus. There is a problem with low sound quality . The notebook has been returned to Asus three (3) times.
After second time repair, and still no improvement, I requested replacement or refund. They said it has to go in for a third time before this can happen.
It went back a third time and still no improvement in sound. Now they say the first time it went in it was for a check not repair!! so that didn't count and they want it back again.
It's been away more than I've had it.
Simplyasus, who I bought it from, say it's down to Asus.
Can anyone help, what are my rights?

You need to request a replacement or refund from Simplyasus not the manufacturer. Assuming that the low sound quality is due to a fault then point out to the retailer they have made several attempts to repair it with no success. Advise them that under the Sale of Goods Act any remedy provided should not cause "significant inconvenience" to the purchaser. As you say they have had it more times than you I would say that a repair is significantly inconvenient to you. Also advise them that you have given them a reasonable amount of time to repair the goods. As they have failed to provide a satisfactory repair you would now like a replacement or refund.
Alternatively, as it is only a few months old, you could claim inherent fault. If they were to argue this they would need to provide evidence that it wasn't inherently faulty (burden of proof is on the retailer within the first 6 months of purchase). I feel that Simplyasus would struggle to prove it isn't inherently faulty as the laptop has failed after a very short period.0 -
Has the sound quality always been poor, has it gone from good to poor??0

Sound quality has always been poor. Believe it or not they suggested I attach speakers!!
To play a cd I have to be near/in the same room as the notebook.
ps. My hearing is perfect.0 -
I would suggest that it is not faulty then, merely not suitable for your needs. It probably has very poor/cheap inbuilt speakers, also a poor sound card.
Hence why it has been suggested to buy speakers as the manufacturer/retailer is aware that its not great for listening to music like alot of notebooks.0 -
Looking at the Asus website the majority of their notebooks have no integrated speakers, some have "standard" integrated speakers which will be poor to say the least, more expensive models have high def audio speakers inbuilt. I can not find any mention of sound card specs etc.0
