Hi,
Son goes to Uni in September (hopefully!) and completely out of character I'm trying to plan ahead.
Looking at the forms for student loans/maintenance etc. to try and work out how much I'll have to fund his studying (partying? !).
I can't seem to find out if WFTC is counted as 'income'?
Anyone know?
And what about child benefit?
Any other info on this subject would be gratefully received.
Many thanks in advance,
Steve

i am a student at minute and at no place on form did i have to mention working family taxd credit.mainly due to the fact ,that you put your insurance number on it ,so if they wanted to know you're details they can at any time cross check for you.but i didn't need to tell them that i am claiming it ..0

To add to this, my hubby is a student and also receives disability benefits. He does not have to declare this as part of his income as they only ask for certain things to be included as income. So I think, generally, there are certain categories of income they need to take into account and others they don't.

The best guide, from the Students Loan Company itself is http://www.studentsupportdirect.co.uk/ they actually have advice for those considering Uni. It is really really good and there should be pretty much every question you could have answered on it.
There is a lot of support both financially & otherwise available for Students at University and this is a great place to start!0 -
Many thanks for the replies.
On the form we have it asks for the amount of WFTC we got last year (2005-2006) and we have to send the 'Award letter' with the form.
So I was more wondering if they count this (WFTC) as income when working out how much my Son will get.
Re-reading the form & notes I have found out that they don't want to know about Child Benefit , so obviously they don't count that.
Will have a look at the site you suggested Rob - thanks.0 -
They do count wtc but not ctc - at least that's how it is on the old system!
Thay take your net pay minus financial commitments such as pension payments, rent/mortgage and council tax. They also take off so much for each dependent child you have. How much help you get depends on the amount you have left over after all these deductions.
Hope that helps0
