I start the computer, after all the messages from AVG, spysweeper, msn messenger, zone alarm appear, then a message "perform an illegal operation, system will be shut down", will be shown, when I close the box, it doesn't shut down but if I try to go to the internet, most of the times, I couldn't get to the websites. I have to reboot again, but this time, the message will be "system is not responding,....", I have to switch off the main switch. After I switch on, again the same message will appear, this will continue. If I am lucky, I get to connect to the website like now. This has been happening daily now for the last 2 weeks. I can't shut down properly most of the times. Please help!!! Thank you.

Have you tried booting in safe mode? if you can get that far try disabling the startup programmes 1 at a time, most recent first, until you find what is causing the problem. If this has only recently started to happen theres a good chance it may be a conficting programme0

Sorry, how do you disable the start-up programme? Is it disinstalling them? Thanks!0

Just try this first off, Within Messenger Options Untick the Option where
messenger starts up on windows startup.
Are you using XP?0 -
Still window 980

Ok what the problem maybe is that a few things maybe starting up and making 98 trip over itself, I would remove any unwanted old programs from control panel add/remove programs. http://www.techadvice.com/w98/R/remove-programs_w98.htm
I would also try a scan disk then a defrag as that maysolve a few issues
I would definately do this first as it forms a basis for other troubleshooting.
It will take quite a while to defrag 98 as its FAT32, but you must Scandisk first
because if you do not a defrag will halt on any bad clusters.0 -
Thanks, will try to remove the unwanted programmes.0

Hello, have tried remove a few programmes, it was fine until this morning, when I started the PC, same message appeared again, when I checked on the details, it said,"zlclient caused an invalid page default in module FRAMWRK.DLL" . Please help again!!!!0

zlclient is Zone Alarm, so I'd try uninstalling Zone Alarm and reinstalling it. There's a free download at http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp?dc=12bms&ctry=US&lang=en&lid=nav_za0
