Hi there we're looking at car hire and the only one affordable is a fiat Panda. My OH is about 6'3" and I was wondering if there was any tell people out there who'd driven one. the longest journey would be about 90 minutes on the motorway to holiday accommodation but I don't want him to spend the rest of the holiday in traction!!!

Why don't you drive and let your OH recline in the passenger seat/lay down in the back?

I KNEW you'd say that but we're both happier when he's driving. I always get my name on as a second driver but we class it as only if absolutely necessary. I can drive perfectly well but have little experience abroad.

Fiat Panda, I take it you don't have any luggage then.

we have 4 of the small trolley cases - ryanair hand luggage size and 2 kids in the back so no room to recline front seats. My OH said he didn't think the luggage would fit.

well you'll have no problem with headroom - my husband's 6'5" and Fiats across the range are great for headroom, including teh Panda (we know - we test drove one at the weekend!). The luggage space might be a bit of a squeeze though - but there might be room for one of the bags between the kids on the back seat?

We usually book through DoYouSpain (you didn't say where you were going) or a similar consolidator. We have found that the cheapest car is a Clio or similar, but a Citroen Berlingo/Renault Kangoo is virtually the same price.

I drive a Berlingo in the UK and can assure you there is plenty of room for 4 people, 4 cases and a lot more besides. Berlingos are everywhere in Spain, probably because they are made there.

yeh I'd love the luxury of a berlingo but the prices have gone crazy - £500 for 2 weeks in August - I kid you not! thanks for the reassurance about the headroom. I think I'll book it. Do you mind if I don't say who it is with until I get it. It's half the price of anywhere else.

Panda is roomy enough inside I'm 6'2" and there was more space behind me than in a punto...

    Boot space was small though.

Think you are just spoting forth again Chippy. The Panda is a good size inside. We have had 3 rugby forwards in the back and there is still plenty room for all their kit in the boot.
