Click here for the main game page. Entry is free but you will need a little bit of cricket knowledge.
Each day for the duration of the Ashes series, Angus Fraser will, [in the printed edition of] The Independent, make six predictions concerning that day's play. Three of the predictions will involve names; three will involve numbers. Your challenge is to make more accurate predictions than his. Depending on how well you do, you can score runs or lose wickets.
During each of the Ashes tests, you need to compete with Angus' predictions on a daily basis, presumably before 11AM each day. The highest prediction-based score in each test will win tickets to the following Test, or in the case of game 5, ODI tickets. Then the top 3 from each of the 5 games will be entered into a draw for the overall prize - a trip to South Africa including accomodation and flights

The predictions are printed in The Independent and not on their web site. In a subsequent post I will put Angus' day 1 predictions for Cardiff since they have been printed a day early.

Do we have any Indie readers that are willing to post further predictions from day 2 onwards and into the other Tests?

I have put the end date of the comp as the start date of the last of the Ashes tests.

    T&C's:
    • There will be five games of Scorecard! starting from July 6th and continuing until the last Ashes Test (20-24 August). Each game will last for the duration of the Ashes Test to which it relates.
    • There will be one winner in every game; the winner will be the person that has the highest number of runs at the end of the game. In the event of a tie, the winner will be the player among those tied who has lost the fewest wickets. If there is still a tie, the winner will be drawn at random from those tied. In the event of the Test match finishing before the end of the fifth day, or of play being lost because of rain or bad light, predictions which are no longer applicable will be considered void and scores will be based only on the remaining predictions.
    • For each of the first four games of Scorecard!, the winner will receive one pair of tickets to a specific day of the next Ashes Test; for the fifth game of Scorecard!, the winner will win a pair of tickets for one of the one-day matches in the NatWest series in September. The winner, runner-up and third-placed player in each Scorecard! game will also be entered into a draw from which the winner of the overall prize, a trip to South Africa for two, will be chosen at random. Prize will include return flights from a UK international airport. Accommodation will be based on two people sharing one room. Travel insurance not included.
    • For further details of first prize see the paper on Friday 10 July 2009.
    • This promotion is only available to UK residents and you must be 18 or over.
    • Entries must be received by 11am each day.
    • The winners of the weekly game will be notifed within 24 hours by telephone or email and it is a condition of entry that entrants agree if they win they will allow The Independent to publish their full name, the area they live in and a photograph of them. Winners’ details will be available by post from Scorecard!, Independent News & Media, 2 Derry Street, W8 5HF. Standard newspaper terms & conditions apply. See independent.co.uk/legal.
    • Only one entry per person

    Notes:
    • For day one, you have to enter both sets of predictions and the irrelevant one will be discarded
    • When you choose your own predictions for A, C and E, you choose from a drop-down list
    • For B, D and F, I believe you just enter the number (e.g. 7 for the 7th over or 122 for 122 runs)
    • Don't just copy all of what's printed below. If you do, you won't have a chance of winning! It may make sense to have some identical answers however.
Angus' predictions for day 1 at Cardiff:

Set A - If England bat first:

    A. Top scorer on first day: Kevin Pietersen
    B. Top score on first day: 122 runs
    C. First Wicket to Fall: Andrew Strauss
    D. First Wicket to Fall in: the 7th over
    E. Most expensive over will be bowled by: Mitchell Johnson
    F. Most expensive over will cost: 13 runs

Set B - If Australia bat first:

    A. Top scorer on first day: Ricky Ponting
    B. Top score on first day: 87 runs
    C. First Wicket to Fall: Phillip Hughes
    D. First Wicket to Fall in: the 14th over
    E. Most expensive over will be bowled by: Graeme Swann
    F. Most expensive over will cost: 12 runs
