Halifax Bank charge

This is not a huge amount of money, but Halifax has charged me £35 for a bounced cheque. The cheque was sent to the bank before I transferred the money from my savings account (also with Halifax) to my Halifax current account.
I called them and asked them to refund this charge. They have told me that they will refund the charges only once and I have 1 refund before. So, they won't refund this charge. Is this right? Can they refuse to refund it as I have asked for it more than once?
What do I do now?

The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

Yes they can yes it is fairly standard across most banks.
What you can do is start the process of reclaiming the charges back

Hi I had a £35.00 charge today from Halifax because they said they couldn't pay my DD for Council Tax...
I rang them and they said that although I had put £500.00 in that day the payment had already been requested and therefore unable to pay.
What can I do here. I had to borrow the £500.00 just to pay my bills since I was made redundant in April.
Who is a better bank?? I believe Barclays in this instance would have paid the fee for me and as long as the money is replaced in 24 hours they would not have charged?
Is there anything I can do to get the money back.0 -

Start the process of reclaiming if the bank are not prepared to refund the amount(if it is the first charge you have had)and explain the situation to them and the fact you had to borrow money to pay it.0
