Strange job Interview

Hi,

I don't know what to make of this!

My Hubbie has just been for a job interview in a small, family run company. He put the CV in Saturday morning and they called yesterday and asked if he could come to see them today. Sounds great - they sound keen.

Okay he went to the interview - first one for him in over 20 years so be prepared, got ready for all the trip up questions etc.

When he got there the owner just walked him round the factory showing him and talking and asking questions about my hubbies experience etc - it was apparently so informal and my hubbie said he found it odd - no sitting at a desk etc.

He's come away feeling it went well but not sure whether he had the chance to really get his skills & experience across. He was there for about 1/2 hr.

His CV is very explanatory though. What are your thoughts? They said they would let him know Friday as they have one or two others to see first.

I'm not sure if this sounds like they have already dismissed him or not??

I think it sounds postive - they have obviously read his CV and believe he has the skillsets or they would not have invited him for interview.

Remember that an interview works both ways - your husband need to be sure it is the right place for him too so a tour lets him get a feel for the company. I find this is happening more and more with interviews now.

It certainly does sound rather strange. Perhaps the fact that it is a small, family run company and a factory might explain some of it. HR departments, middle managers and interview panels are not universal.

If they wanted to see him so quickly and showed him the workplace, it seems that they liked his CV.

Does his experience make him very suitable for the job? Was it advertised widely?

I'd take all of this experience as positive as well. It's a small company, family owned, and the owner is probably seeing if your husband might fit in with him and the rest of the workforce. They will have read his CV, seen what he's done in the past, and must be interested enough to call him for an interview, even if it didn't take the form he was expecting. The very best of luck to him!

Many years ago I asked a company if they had any jobs and what were the benefits. They evaded the the question, but invited me for interview which I found strange. It turned out they were hardly interested in my qualifications and experience, but they were willing to train me ..... and employee me at a very derogatory salary - sort of playing on me being desperate. Needless to say, I wasn't that desperate.

Just have to wait and see really - it's easy to be critical - I've worked for a few 'small' firms and a few large ones - I'd be very surprised these days if a small firm could lure me back.

    Good luck
    ;)

Its a trainee position rising to fully trained within 6 months to a year. His experience does make him very suitable for the role and no, the job was advertised only on Gumtree.

We'll see - Friday will soon come around!!

Good luck to your hubby anyway.;)

My hubby should hear something this week, they said 3 weeks, he was interviewed on the 18th June, as the new part of the plant should be opening, I did hear though through Welsh media news there is a slight delay of the opening, but hopefully they shall let my hubby know either way.

He had a tour around the company as well and was there for approx 2 hours, he enjoyed it, fingers crossed for our hubbies.;)

Sounds positive! I doubt he would have been shown round the place if they didn;t think he was at least a serious contender for the job.

    Good luck to your hubby!

I had interview saturday and the lady just spoke about the cost of her daughter's prom. Then kept asking me 'any questions' 3 times.

I don't think I put myself across v well at all! Doh,
