should i report buyer and leave neg?

Hi folks, just need an opinion or two from the more experienced ebayers out there!
I use ebay a lot, mainly for buying. Decided to sell a couple of things recently and put in listing that i would only accept paypal, and payment must be made within 24 hours.
On Monday, a buyer bid for and won item. Half hour later got email saying "can i send cheque?"
I replied saying that I had stated in the listing that I only accepted paypal but I would accept a cheque this one time, and would not send item out until it had cleared. I also pointed out that she is risking her 100% feedback as some people may have reported her as a non-paying bidder and left neg feedback. She replied saying in a very scatty way, saying "oh, i always forget to read things" but she would send cheque right away. This was Tuesday morning.
On Thursday, no sign of cheque so I emailed again and she said she sent it out that morning.
Today, Saturday, still no cheque.
Maybe I should have stuck to my guns and not accepted a cheque.
So, should I report her and leave neg, or should I wait longer to see if it arrives?

I normally give people six days to pay for goods as 24 hours is not that too lng as people have commitments etc so putting 24 hour payment can be off puting however if I win anything on ebay I pay for it straight away then it's done and forgotten about.
You could email them asking where the cheque is then start a npb process if you don't get the answer you wanted but I would not bother giving them a neg as you may find yourself getting a neg feedback out of spite from the buyer for simply the fact they may neg you for their neg.
Ebay is great when it works perfectly but when people hold out on payment it does my head in0 -
Ebay don't even allow an NPB claim to be started until day 7, so sellers do need to be patient unless they are offering BIN with immediate payment required.

I would wait until the postman has been on Tuesday - then you have allowed at least the 7 days for payment to arrive. Was the item quite high value? If the cheque doesnt arrive then you could start an NPB but if doing through ebay they have charge of £15?Weight Loss - 102lb0

Ebay don't charge for doing an NPB, I think you are getting muddled with the ebay buyer protection claim process.

Thanks for replies folks
The item only sold for £6.50, so it's not worth making a fuss about. The annoying thing is that I said I would make an exception by accepting a cheque. I do my banking online as I cannot always get to the bank so I would have to go out of my way to pay in a cheque. Her "ooo, silly me...." attitude in her emails are quite annoying too.
I always pay immediately when I buy something and if am sending cheque, post it either same day or next day. I just have a feeling that the cheque will not be arriving and I am going to have to relist. I know 24 hours is quite short but I think most people pay within that time anyway if using paypal, which is what I was expecting.0 -
You're perfectly within your rights to refuse a cheque if this happens again... it depends how inconvenient you find banking them... some stupid buyer who hasn't read your terms might neg you in a fit of pique at being refused ;-)
By the way, have you emailed the buyer asking if she has posted yet? 'Your cheque hasn't arrived yet, could it have been lost in the post?' That may 'remind' her to post. Better a slow payment than a failed transaction and relist. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -

Soo
Yeah, me being very blonde today!!
It is quite irritating when buyers dont read the item page and see that its paypal only - Ive had one do that to me and when I said it was paypal only they set up a paypal account! Not bad when they do that - if they hadnt I wouldnt accept cheque - prefer paypal as its so much quicker.Weight Loss - 102lb0 -
Hi again
Yes I did email her asking if she had posted cheque and she said she had, although after saying she would post Tuesday, didn't actually post until Thursday.
I forgot to mention in previous post that when I emailed to say that my listing said paypal only, she replied back that as well as 'always forgetting to read things' she couldn't set up a paypal account because she was using her sister's computer. I am no expert on ebay/paypal but I don't see what difference that would have made?
Maybe I am getting old and grumpy, but I just get the impression she is taking the mickey?
Having a real bad day here, I now have another problem which I will put on a new thread.........
  :sad:0 -
Don't post the item until at least 4 working days after entering it into your bank. She sounds as dodgy (or thick) as a dodgy candidate who has backed themselves to the hilt at the world dodgy championship...."Success is not to be measured by the position someone has reached in life, but the obstacles he has overcome while trying to succeed."
